Here’s something I believe today:
There’s only 2 types of founders that win…
GRINDERS and VISIONAIRIES
Both can win big, but each follow a unique path to success.
GRINDERS stay lean and just sort of figure it out over time. Low fixed costs, low ego, naive observer style of company building. They resource the business when they’re certain there’s gold on the other side.
VISIONARIES have a perspective on the future and commit everything to that. They have earned the right to have that perspective and can tell a compelling story of how they got to it. They are also willing to be wrong, and can clearly articulate the things that might challenge their vision. They’re unapologetic about their view of the future.
Inbetween is death.
Grinding with no long term commitment…death.
Visionary with no way to explain how you got to that vision, and waffling on it when pushed…also death.
I might change this view with more time, but for now it captures my lived experience.
