Earlier this morning our friend Raida Daouk announced her fund, Amkan I, in the Wall Street Journal. She’s been a fervent supporter of Also Capital since the beginning, and we’re excited to see mainstream media shine a spotlight on her work.
Raida’s exclusive focus on small, solo GPs is unique today, but it’s increasingly becoming a trend:
- At yesterday’s Emerging Manager Circle conference, there were multiple panels discussing the model’s emergence;
- Earlier this year, I participated in Masters Thesis research on the solo GP model; and
- Way back in 2022, QED’s Frank Rotman covered the solo GP model as one of three “stable points” in the venture ecosystem.
While the solo GP model has worked for us, there’s many ways to win in venture. “Right strategy for the right GP” is what I always say. And regardless of the firm model, finding outliers, picking the right ones, and getting to conviction at speed will always be what wins.
