Also Capital Deep Dive w/ Alex Klein @ Nucleus Talent
Reflections on firm building, origination, and relationships
I recently joined the Nucleus Talent podcast for a conversation with Alex about what we’re building at Also Capital and how we think about firm building and concentration. Alex is doing a fantastic job highlighting the next generation of emerging managers. He’s thoughtful, curious, and deeply aligned with many of the same ideas that drive Also. It was a pleasure to be part of the series!
Alex and I talked about the origin story of Also and how the firm became the natural outcome of what’s been, admittedly, an unconventional career – from my time at Soros Fund Management to the LP seat at the Cornell endowment, through founding and operating Farther Farms, to ultimately launching Also Capital.
We discussed the conviction behind running a concentrated portfolio, the importance of building a firm, not a fund, how we approach hiring, operating from New York, fundraising with long-term LPs, and taking board seats.
We also went deeper on a term I love – origination – and closed on our core belief: relationships are the foundation for everything.
If you have some time on your commute today, give it a listen!
